Immigration Health Surcharge Increase

The date has been announced for the touted Immigration Health Surcharge increase, broadly speaking. The Immigration (Health Charge) (Amendment) Order 2023 lays down that the increase will come into force on the later of 16th January 2024 or the twenty-first day after the day on which the Order is approved by Parliament.

How much is the increase?

The increase is staggering. Most applicants will see the charge rise from £624 to £1,035 per year whilst children, youth mobility workers, students and their dependants will see the charge go up from £470 to £776 per year.

For a typical partner application, this will mean that the Immigration Health Surcharge rises from £1,560 for a 30 month visa to a staggering £2,587.50. For a 3 year Skilled Worker, the fee will go from £1,872 to £3,105.

The increase will be a deterrent to those looking to enter or stay in the UK for employment, and a punishment for those whose partner requires a UK visa.
